It's been three years since the events of The Dark Knight Returns, and everything is just fine. At least on the surface. What the world at large doesn't know is that it's a total sham. A perfectly choreographed, pretty little world where everything that's ugly, or even potentially disturbing, is all nicely wrapped up with neat little ribbons and swept under the carpet. Only he knows better. He's watched it fester to near-breaking point, and ift's time for the only free man left who can effect any real change to bring it all down around their ears once and for all. The Dark Knight returns once again with a vitality unseen since the first years of his war on crime. Together with his army of Bat-soldiers, including Carrie Kelley-formerly Robin, and now the new Catgirl-the Dark Knight wages a new war on a diseased world that's become completely lost. The Dark Knight Strikes Again features appearances by such DC icons as Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Arrow, Martian Manhunter, the Atom, the Question and more. But are they still the World's Greatest Heroes or part of the conspiracy? This incredible volume, designed by multiple award-winner Chipp Kidd, features a new introduction by Miller commenting on returning to the world he created fifteen years ago. The book includes the complete 3-part story, plus numerous sketches and other never-before-seen material.… (altro)

This was more about the Justice League than Batman. Which was ok, but not my thing as a general rule. ( )

Awful. As if writer and his team were on a very bad trip. ( )

This was an interesting continuation have some good storylines but I like more the first book[b:Batman: The Dark Knight Returns|59960|Batman The Dark Knight Returns|Frank Miller|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1327892039s/59960.jpg|1104159]. I like in this one the arrival of many other superheros and villians but in the long run I felt that the first book is a more solid story. ( )

People almost always cite [book: Batman Year One] as the best of the Batman comics, or at least the most influential. While I understand how vital it was in changing the general comic book narrative - how the gritty realism affected Batman comics for a long time to come, and how revolutionary it was to tell the story from Commisioner Gordon's perspective... while all of that may be so, [book: The Dark Knight Returns] is a comic both revolutionary and relatively unscathed from the ravages of time. I can't help but feel that this is the story [author: Frank Miller] wished to tell from the beginning.

This is Bruce Wayne, age 55, long having retired from being the Batman. This is Gotham, slowly catching up with modern sensibilities and all that it means. Can men like Harvey Dent be rehabilitated? Does Batman coming out of retirement create more criminals than he eradicates? What is the nature of Batman, and what does it mean? And ultimately... what does it all matter? Mix in a female Robin (brilliant), Superman, and Green Arrow and what you have is something psychotic and beautiful, and just... right. It was as if at long last I'd finally found the Batman comic I had always wanted.

The art works extremely well, and the palette is beautiful. This book, more than any other I've read, seemed to fully capture the Joker in all of his insanity and strangeness. Superman in particular was exceptionally drawn, and his introduction was spot-on and the best mirror to Batman imaginable. I adored the new Robin, and how fully Jason was remembered. In truth, there was just about nothing I didn't love about this comic. Everything that rubbed me oddly about [book: Dardevil: Born Again] and [book: Batman: Year One] were absent in this title. This is pure [author: Frank Miller] without so many of the tropes people often complain about.

If only he got to include Bat Mite. ( )

Frank Miller's follow-up does reach the heights of the first, but it follows well. If you liked the first, you'll enjoy the second, and of course will need it. Miller is trying something larger here, with a broad scope of characters and significance - and in the middle of it is the undaunted Batman. His individual strength and leadership capacity come to the front, and the story points forward to a new kind of society being set right. ( )
