This was my first experience with Georgia Beers. I really enjoyed this book. I'll be picking up more of her work. My review is located on www.lezficrev.blogspot.com

1/20/13 - doing a reread in preparation for Ms. Beers joining us on Cocktail Hour. I just love her writing style.

Still my favorite! ( )

Beers will always be close to my heart because Starting from Scratch was my introduction to lesfic ebooks. This feel-good story stars Avery King who, by coincidence, lives close to her crush, Elena Walker. With some humor, angst, and an interesting cast of minor characters, Avery and Elena's journey is sweet and romantic. ( )

This was a mostly usual sort of lesfic romance. It's the story of Elena and Avery. Elena is a Bank Manager at Avery's bank. Avery is a graphic designer for an ad agency. She has a huge crush on Elena.

Nothing happens until Avery's friend Maddie has ACL surgery. That means two things. Number one, it means that Avery has to sub as the coach for Maddie's T-ball team. She meets a very important boy on the team. Number two, it means that Maddie is bored and she goes on and makes an online dating profile for Avery where she happens to meet Elena (in a very cute way).

They grow closer of course, much, much closer, and it looks like it's going to be a problem free relationship, but, that would be a boring novel.

Overall I liked it (although one of the names at the end was a little too fandom-esque and that pulled me out of the narrative). It was a little bit of a foodie romance, oh, those deserts/sweets.Amazing,and a little bit of an epistolary too.

There's some interesting ex stuff and I loved, loved all the scenes with the kids.

It was a fun read,and a quick read. ( )

Great storyline but missing a plot. I did enjoy the characters though and would definitely read more of Georgia Beers' books. However, it was annoying to read at times due to the abundance of grammatical errors that were present throughout the entire novel. While Ms. Beers may be a good storyteller, Katherine V. Forrest may have missed her calling elsewhere. There were so many issues with grammar that I had to fight the urge to pick up a red pen and edit it myself as I read! I have read many ARCs with less errors and this was not even an ARC! Once again though, I stress that I thoroughly enjoyed the story. Quick and easy read with a heartfelt storyline and memorable characters. ( )
