In a universe filled with hearts and minds as cold and dark as the reaches of space, one small Firefly-class starship named Serenity takes its ragtag crew of mercenaries, outlaws, and fugitives in search of a job, any job, that'll earn them enough cash to afford that most elusive commodity, peace.
Reading this after Joss Whedon was outed as a piece of shit is bittersweet. I still have a lot of nostalgia for Firefly and love the characters. The writing really does capture the voice of those characters from the show. The art is interesting and captures the world. Beyond that, the story reads as a pretty average Firefly episode with not a lot going on. ( )
It reads like watching an episode of Firefly. The characters say all the right things and in the right way, the artwork is gorgeous and hits all the same notes as the better episodes of the tv series. Loved it and will move onto the next one I checked out of the library.
I also appreciated the history of the Firefly universe section in the back...this is never talked about in the original tv series and you kinda get bits and pieces of it as you watch each episode. ( )

Serenity: Those Left Behind' was originally released as a three-issue comic book series from Dark Horse Comics. The first issue was released on July 20, 2005, the second on August 3, 2005, and the third on September 9, 2005. Each issue was released with three cover variants, for a total of nine covers—each one featuring a different member of the crew.
In January, 2006, the series was collected as a trade paperback entitled Serenity: Those Left Behind. The novel included the art from all nine original covers included throughout. Additionally, Nathan Fillion wrote an introduction to this edition.
On November 14, 2007, a special hardcover edition of Serenity: Those Left Behind was released. This edition featured a new cover by Adam Hughes, and showcases the work of penciller Will Conrad and colorist Laura Martin. It features pinups by several guest artists, and over a dozen backup pages that deal with the work and art behind the scenes.
