Some interesting stuff in here and I have no doubt that the KGB tried seriously to undermine Western institutions during the Cold War. Nevertheless, the author's very obvious right wing prejudices make him, I think, exaggerate the spread and depth of such activities; he seems to believe that anyone on the Left was an actual or potential Soviet agent. Unfortunately, this makes me doubt some of what he writes. I am not sure I am convinced that Roger Hollis was really a KGB agent, as the admittedly extensive evidence is totally circumstantial (no smoking gun) and I can't help thinking that a real agent would have been cleverer and less evasive and clumsy than Hollis appears to have been. In this extraordinary volume, first published in 1981, British journalist Chapman Pincher dissected the whole of the Soviet penetration of the western world during the twentieth century, helped unmask the Cambridge Five, and outlined his suspicions that former MI5 chief Peter Hollis was a Soviet super-spy at the heart of a ring of double-agents, poisoning the Secret Intelligence Service from within. Chapman Pincherbegan a career in journalism, joining theDaily Expressas a science and defense correspondent at the end of the Second World War. He was regarded as one of the UK's finest investigative reporters of the twentieth century. He died in 2014. Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |
