The story of a Mexican boy on the streets of Juarez who is saved by an American soldier. Manny is a 14-year-old orphan living in Juarez who dreams of crossing the border in hopes of a better life. After his first unsuccessful attempt to cross the border illegally, he runs into a gang of kidnappers but fortunately, he manages to escape. Unfortunatly, he'll run into the same group of men later in the book. The same night of his crossing attempt he meets a sergeant suffering from PTSD. This meeting will ultimately change both of their lives forever. This book gives good insight on how people from different parts of the world have to live in order to survive, and why so many choose to cross the US-Mexico border illegally in search of a better life. It's also about a soldier suffering from PTSD and how he chooses to cope with it. Two lost souls looking for a better tomorrow. An intriguing and intense short book about a young Mexican orphan surviving on the streets of Juarez. The story includes a Vietnam vet who crosses into Mexico nightly, to drink away the ghosts of his past. And one night, the two meet, and both their lives are changed, for better...or worse. The Crossing was different from other works by this author, partly in how the veteran's rambling and drunken thoughts were described. It is not a "feel good" story, but definitely riveting, and worth reading. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
