50 Ways to Find a Lover is a hilarious, fun and unputdownable romantic comedy, from Lucy-Anne Holmes. I feel like a failure. It's now been 351 days since I had sex. That's a carnal drought. If Bob Geldof knew about it he'd hold a concert. Sarah Sargeant has been single for three years and nine months. She has just spent five months plucking up the courage to ask out a balding man with a paunch who works in her local pub. The gentleman in question informed her that he would rather stay in and watch the Narnia movie on DVD. Her pride has not just been bruised, it's been disembowelled. And she vows it's the last time she will ever reach out to a member of the opposite sex. But her family and friends have other ideas. They enter her into a reality TV show against her will, persuade her to go speed dating and even more radically, they encourage her to start a blog. Suddenly Sarah Sargeant is on a mission: a mission to explore 50 Ways To Find A Lover.… (altro)

Sarah Sargeant is a 29 soon to be 30 (horror!) woman who works as a waitress but is actually an actress who is desparing of ever finding the right man.

So after unsucessfully applying to take part in a reality dating show she decides to start a blog where she will challenging herself to test 50 ways to find a guy. I know one of them was speed dating because after that I started to skim the book but I dont think she ever tried 50 different ways.

The author tries to make her main character quirky and funny but she just ended up making her come across as obnoxious and with a dirty mind and mouth. I felt very prude reading some of her inner monologues. She is also very insulting and bitter about other women. Wich didnt help in endearing myself to me

"Why is she so pretty and talented?! Not fair?" Or thinking that another woman "could have been beautiful if not for her big nose.

I think the mystery of why she was single isnt such a big mystery. But of course in the end she finds true love. Yes life is strange.

I sort of suspected who she would end up with eventually though. And if you have ever seen a romantic comedy and starts to read this book you will too.

Its the best guy friend ( )

I was suprised to find that this book is more autobiographal than fiction - it is based on the authors on experiences as charted on her blog http://www.spinstersquest.com/ . Some really hilarious moments, very believable characters (ironically)and a fun read on searching and finding love for a thoroughly modern (nearly 30 something)woman.Don't read if you object to profanity. Do check out the blog as well. ( )

This book is an account of one British girl's journey to both find a lover as well as discovering herself. Lucy-Anne has a fresh voice, with witty banter and it was a very fast read.
