Definitely an academic book, not the most readable. (And I read the translation, not the original French.) I tracked this book down after watching the miniseries "The Collection" on PBS, which is about fashion right after World War 2. An interesting perspective on occupied France, and on fashion. I learned a lot about rationing. The change in designs, and the development of synthetic and wood-based fabrics were revelations to me. I wish "The Collection" had been a better series, and illustrated the conditions described in this book better. ( )
