It seems that a lot of Amish fiction books I read begin with the death of someone's husband. This book is no exception. Hannah Brown's husband has died and Hannah moves to Ohio to live with her sister and brother-in-law. Hannah loves her sheep and has them trucked to Ohio, with explicit instructions not to deliver them on a Sunday. Unfortunately, the truck with the sheep arrives on a Sunday. The Amish are forbidden to do labor on Sunday's and, as much as Hannah wants to unload her sheep and check on how they weathered the trip, her brother-in-law is adamant that the truck leave and return on Monday. Hannah, still grieving over the loss of her husband, is not made to feel welcome by her brother-in-law. Her trunks are stored under the porch and he refuse to give her space to set up her loom. He brother-in-law hates the sheep and the mess they make of his field, and when his brother, Seth falls in love with Hannah and his own daughter wants to start raising sheep and buy a loom of her own...well...the wool begins to fly. This is a great book. I couldn't put it down. Mary Ellis captures the Amish lifestyle and keeps the reader turning pages from start to finish. Another wonderful Amish story to add to the many, many, many Amish novels that I have read. This is book 1 in Mary Ellis' Amish series, The Miller Family series, and I am so glad that I had the chance to review this tender story of love, forgiveness, family and heartache. When I think of the Amish, I automatically think of the easy life they have, but in reality, they have struggles too. Many of the same struggles that we Englishers often have, and one of them being the death of a husband or a wife. In A Widow's Hope, that is exactly what Hannah is dealing with: the death of her husband, and the hope to love again. When another Amish widower enters the picture, it is a story that will make you laugh, cry and settle right in with all the wonderful characters. I give this book a 5 star rating and high recommendations. I am looking forward to reading and reviewing book 2 in this series, Never Far From Home. If you like Amish and you love God, grab a copy of this book by a wonderfully talented author and experience a lightening of the heart through this simple easy read of Amish life. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
