I was attracted by the cover. The plot wasn't great, but it was nice to be introduced to this community of righteous and cool characters. I will return for more visits. ( )

Evil mad scientists, fire-breathing chicks, super-star country singers all in one book? Yes, Maguire’s Three Rotten Eggs is a delightful comedy about the power of befriending the outcasts, working together, and safe-guarding flame-burping chicks. The comedy is, at times, laugh-out-loud funny and very accessible to middle school (through adult) readers. The writing is on target for middle school readers as well. Even though this book is the 5th installment of The Hamlet Chronicles, it works well on its own. I would recommend this book to middle school students looking for a good laugh. ( )

Gregory Maguire's Hamlet Chronicles are fun and silly, but the plots are not quite what I would want to give this more than three stars. In this one, Thud, a bully, moves to Hamlet and joins Miss Earth's class. At the same time, three genetically altered baby chicks show up, which the class adopts, then tries to protect from the mad scientist trying to get them back. ( )
