The winter holiday means a hundred things in a hundred different lands. But no matter where you travel, winter is a time for storytelling. Raven Wakes the World presents a very different winter holiday tale sure to touch the heart, bringing together an ancient Inuit legend and a haunting romance. Katie Mason is an artist wounded in the soul, a creator who's forgotten how to create ... and how to love. She has come all the way to Alaska to make art and to heal from a broken relationship. But she hasn't been able to do either. At least not until a dark-eyed stranger enters her life. His stories fuel her imagination and her passions. But his secrets may do something far more transformative. Christmas is a season of gifts and miracles, of love and healing and the joy of homecoming. This mythic holiday gift will awaken the wonder of the season in you -- and make you think of winter in entirely new ways.… (altro)

Raven Wakes the World by John Adcox
Love why this story was written, beautiful story about a Christmas gift, one from the heart and soul and made using your own hands.
Story starts with Katie and we learn that she is on her island, her grandmother left her money and she's left Boston and Billy and has come to Alaska to heal and be creative.
Grew up on an island and know the feeling of living there, knowing everyone and finding comfortable spots.
She ventures to the mainland for food and groceries and hope they last a long time-til she has to return.
At the pub the New Sam has chili and fixings for her but she doesn't eat much as a man , Lucas there wants to converse.
She tries to avoid the grocery woman as she will want more paintings of Katie's to sell and she has none, but she needs groceries.
We learn of the Raven celebration that is as big as Christmas. Inuit people and special powers...
Lucas shows up at her house to fix the roof, as per the grocery woman's information. It snows so hard and for so long that he stays and they become familiar with one another.
He tells her more of the Raven and aurora borealis phenomenon.
He brings out the best in her and she starts having moments where she wants to work again...
Love hearing of the treasures for sale at the store, especially the back room.
Like the discussions of the raven and how they relate to Katie: not wanting to wake up cuz of the pain...
Glad she was able to track down the raven and understand it all as it relates to her life.
Illustrations really bring out the scenes being described. Love how the author can paint the picture of his words in front of your eyes to bring you to the location he is talking about, so precise.
About the author and illustrator are also included at the end. Love finding double meanings of some things throughout the book.
Received this review copy from the publisher and this is my honest opinion. ( )
