Anne Beddingfeld is on her own and ready for adventures when one comes her way. She sees a man die in a tube station and picks up a piece of paper dropped nearby. The message on the paper leads her to South Africa as she fits more pieces of the puzzle together about the death she witnessed. Tuttavia è pur sempre una delle più grandi gialliste di tutti i tempi, quindi nonostante tutti i difetti di cui mi sono apena lamentata il romanzo è scorrevolissimo e riesce a tener desta la curiosità del lettore, grazie a qualche colpo di scena ben studiato ed alla trovata di narrare la storia da un doppio punto di vista.
Siamo lontani anni luce delle sue opere migliori, ma questo romanzo (scritto agli inizi quando probabilmente doveva ancora trovare la sua strada) è estremamente piacevole da leggere e per nulla pretenzioso: più di quanto si possa dire per la maggiorparte dei gialli moderni ( )
