In the realm from which the Greek gods ruled the universe thousands of years ago, the immortal witch Anatopsis uncovers the true objectives of her demi-god tutor Mr. Pound and attempts to prevent him from carrying out his evil plans. "[Immortal Princess Anatopsis's new tutor, the demi-god Mr. Pound, is searching for a relic that grants unlimited power to its bearer. It is up to Ana--with the help of a surprising gift, a rebel mortal army, a shockingly powerful metal, and the last dog in the Universe--to stop his evil plan in this fantasy, influenced by Greek mythology]"--Provided by publisher.… (altro)

Princess Anatopsis is the daughter of Queen Abigail Solomon, the president of Amalgamated Witches Corporation. Prince Barnaby is the son of King Archibald Georges III, the president of Consolidated Necromantic Industries. As dictated by an age-old tradition, Anatopsis and Barnaby find themselves thrust together as they study for the Bacchanalian exams under the tutelage of Dr. Pound, a demigod. Much to the chagrin of their respective parents, neither child puts forth the effort needed to pass the exams. Anatopsis does not want to take over her mother's business. She wants to follow in her father's footsteps and become a knight-errant. Barnaby, who possesses no real magical power, wants to be left alone to build things. When Anatopsis and Barnaby discover that Dr. Pound isn't really training the next generation of witches and warlocks, they realize that they are both in grave danger. Pound searches for the Os Divinitas, a magical device that he will use to destroy the world. Anatopsis and Barnaby join forces with some very unlikely allies to save the world from Dr. Pound's evil plans.

It began promising enough, with shades of Dianna Wynne Jones and a somewhat crazy sci-fi/fantasy setting. Alas, when it took a darker twist, instead of getting better, it deteriorated sharply into social class divisions (mortal/immortal) and other ethic/moral messages that alas fell a bit flat. It fell flat due to character development - which could have been better, jumping erratically between the two protagonists, rushing the final development and drawing to a somewhat downbeat conclusion. The villain, likewise, was pencil thin in the personality stakes and overall it left me feeling distinctly disatisfied. A promising idea and plot, but rather poorly executed. ( )

This book is a fantasy and is 11 points. It is 11 AR points
This book was very confusing to me in the beggining. This book is about a girl named Anatopsis. Anatopsis is a princess. Anatopsis is the daughter of a very busy queen and is a very different girl than what her mom expected her to be. Everyone is a witch or wizard. People who aren't live in ghettos. Anatopsis is studying for a magic test sort of like our NJ ask but they are castings spells and curses. These tests are called the Bachellanes. To study, there is a tradition where a princess and a prince is are brought together and they study toghether. The same toutor comes every year. his name is Mr. Pound. He is a son of one of the greek gods. He is looking for something that I can't remember the name for. While he looks for that Anatopsis and Prince Ben are trying to help the conditions of the people who live inthe ghettos. You will have to read the book to find out the ending, ( )

Anatopsis is kind of a strange book. The beginning seems a little long and the ending seems a little short. The characters are interesting, but lack a level of depth. They seems to have no introspection at all. I know this is a young adult novel, but that really is not excuse. For that reason it is a cute book with an interesting premise, but nothing more. ( )
