After keeping you guessing for 100 issues, 100 Bullets ends with an almost mathematical precision, as all the pieces fall into the places spelled out for them practically from the very beginning of the series. And how satisfying it is, that after almost disappearing from the series, the attache cases, filled with with the titular bullets, make such a stunning and crucial comeback. A staggering achievement, and I want to sit down and read it all over again. Wilt is a reasonable end to the 100 Bullets chronicle. Eduardo Risso's artwork is as good as ever, and if Brian Azzarello's story has to stretch quite a bit in order to bring the proceedings to an end, the extremes he goes to are certainly entertaining (if not a bit silly at the same time). None of the plot developments are much of a surprise, and in the end, Azzarello manages to rob The Trust (the organization at the heart of this narrative) of any notions of mystery and intrigue that made it interesting in earlier installments. It's all a lot of goofy, violent fun, and Risso's art saves 100 Bullets from drowning in the lake of mediocrity - the pages are worth turning for the eye candy alone. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

The final battle between the surviving houses of the Trust and their onetime enforcer Agent Graves has been joined, and casualties on both sides promise to be high. In this war, however, the line between soldier and civilian has all but vanished, and no one is giving much thought to collateral damage. But just as no plan of attack ever survives its first contact with the enemy, history shows that unexpected factors are often the most decisive--and that both sides are equally vulnerable. Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end
Of our elaborate plans, the end
Of everything that stands, the end
No safety or surprise, the end
- The End, The Doors
And, after 100 issues, collected into (fittingly) 13 trades, the story of the Trust and the Minutemen comes to an end—well, aside from the Brother Lono coda that I'm about to start—and I'm impressed, I'm elated, I'm exhausted, and I'm bummed.
I will say, the convoluted twists and turns in the last couple of collections do get a bit confusing, but this one lays it all out and explains it all. And, even better?
I knew how this was all gonna end. Absolutely had it nailed.
And, in one final, impressive stroke, they pulled one final twist on me...because it did not end as I expected.
This is very likely my favourite graphic novel series, ever. ( )
