The likely hood of me returning to this book is very slim. I just didn't enjoy it and have so many other books I'd like to read. Marking it as 'read' since I technically did read some of it. ( )

I came across this last night and wondered why I couldn't remember it. Now I know why, the book may be good, P.C. Cast is an author I enjoy, but the narrator of this audiobook is a painful listen. I tried speeding up and slowing narration down, but the narration just didn't work for me. I just couldn't get involved in the story due to the narration. maybe someday I'll find a print book on sale and try again in order to give the author a better review, but I won't pay full price, I've already purchased the audio.

When her plane crashes into the ocean, CC’s life changes forever. She awakens, bewildered, to find herself in a legendary time and place ruled by magic—and in the body of the mythic mermaid Undine. But danger lurks in the waters, ready to swallow CC whole. Taking pity on her, the goddess Gaea turns her into a damsel, that she might seek shelter on land. But when a dashing knight comes to CC’s rescue—a dream-come-true she should be falling for—she instead aches for the sea and the darkly sexy merman who’s stolen her heart. ( )

I was not expecting this book to be as romancey as it is, but it was still a lot of fun. The heroine gets transformed into Undine, and has a nasty merman after her with nefarious purposes. She has dolphin and fishie friends, and Gaia is her mom. It was a quick, fun read. I would read more in the series, to see what the author does with other myths. ( )

My biggest issue (there's many issues) was that there was never any point for her to remain on land after she decided she loved Dylan. It was needless danger that complicated things and got people killed. Gaea offered her a cove they could have cooped up in until Lir got back from the Shark Godess business. There was an obvious simple solution staring them in the face and instead they choose unnecessary drama. I can never love a book where characters are blatantly stupid, especially when they're supposed to be gods.

That scene where she's teaching 11th century nuns Aretha Franklin's 'Respect' was seriously cringey, I want to erase most of this book from my brain. Plus, the fish-sex was *weird*.

I was going to give this book 2 stars, because I hate giving 1 stars, but I can't. This book was awful. I was interested in a later book in this series and decided to start at the beginning. It's safe to say I will not be read any more of this author's series. ( )

PC Cast owns my heart. It is no longer mine.
Thus far, every book of hers has pulled me in ... held my heart in it's hand, fills it with love and warm ... and then squeezed the blood from it until it's but a husk of it's former self ... until I read the next book :-)

I *love* this author!
