I knew the ending going in....the book jacket even tells you it's about the "disastrous end of a marriage." Yet, I found myself reading very quickly to find out how it all ended! I'm always amazed by people who 1) can clearly organize their thoughts about tumultuous events and 2) are willing to write so openly about such personal events. I liked it but still don't understand how, on the last pages of the book, Isabel has managed to write so kindly about people who hurt her so deeply. ( ) I read this was a MUST READ in Glamour magazine. Honestly hope it is better than Love and Other Disasters (which was so real I literally got sick to my stomach). I may pass from reading all these pre-reviews. And, depending on how "an all-too-true-story" it is, I may not be able to stomach it (literally). But it's worth at least browsing once it is released, right? Not what I was expecting. This book solely focuses on the breakdown of her marriage over a few short months. Gillies gives of a small dose of personal history her life as well as that of her ex-husbands. The story is well written and I'm sure it happens every day but Gillies manages to tell her story in a unique way. I was expecting more of a memoir about that time in her life including the aftermath, but this book just focuses on the breakdown. A very quick read for me, I finished it one evening. I would have like to read about how Gillies moved on or helped her boys heal or even found her new love, but I guess that's another book. rabck from dvg; a one day read - it was that good. Isabel moves with her two young sons to follow her professor husband to Ohio. Shortly after they buy a house, the marriage implodes, from his side. He doesn't love her any more. Vacillating between her childhood, earlier years in the marriage, and the disintegration of the marriage, the author takes you through the disbelief, attempts to salvage things (one sided), trying to get through the day and looking on the bright side in small glimpses to make it through. On it's way as a tag to another reader. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

Gillies pens a fast-paced, intriguing memoir in which she is forced to come to terms with the swift destruction of her picture-perfect life after her husband leaves her for another woman--something her rival reminds her, happens every day. Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |
