Scritto malissimo, ma molto interessante se uno non conosce assolutamente la storia dei paesi dell'Asia centrale, anche se vista esclusivamente dal punto di vista delle due grandi superpotenze Russia e Inghilterra. Con un occhio di favore a quest'ultima ( )
Mitico. Si legge veloce in un fiato. I veri "antenati" di James Bond pionieri in un territorio, allora più di ora, selvaggio e spietato, crudele e affascinante: l' asia centrale. Bisogna leggerlo perche diverte e perchè aiuta a capire come poco sia cambiato in quelle terre.
Hopkirk tells his story "through the individuals, on either side, who took part in the great imperial struggle, rather than through historical forces or geopolitics." This approach has the advantage of bringing to light many remarkable individuals obscured by the passage of years; it also has the disadvantage of leaving the reader somewhat uncomprehending about the deeper causes or consequences of the action-packed pages he's read.
