This book is about a young boy and his father who are on their way to see Abraham Lincoln come home by train. They travel a good way to come see the train that has Abe Lincoln on it, bringing him home to rest eternally. I really liked this book and the illustrations in it. I think that this is a good book to read in a social studies lesson because at the end of the book, it tells facts about the train that Abraham Lincoln came home on, and information on what caused his death, etc. I think that would be perfect to incorporate into a lesson and it could help children to learn about him, in a simple way. Before I read this book, I never knew he came back to his hometown in Illinois to be buried. This was a new fact that I learned from reading this book. I think that biographies are significant because it tells the history of people who we may have never gotten the chance to meet and know and this way it tells us about them and what happed in their lives. This book describes a father and son going to the railroad tracks to see the train that is bringing Abraham Lincoln home to be buried. They were not the only people out there for his arrival. As the train passed the son saw his father cry for the first time. The father and son then rode back home on their wagon. This book was fine, but it was not one of my favorites. I feel like the book could of gone into more detail. It could of made a stronger connection to Abraham Lincoln and the father and son. All and all the book was decent and could help children understand more about the death of Lincoln and how Americans loved him so much. ( )

The book was wonderfully written and illustrated. It seems to be a fictional book that is based on a historical event. The author does a great job of telling a story about a boy and his father traveling to see the train that is carrying Abraham Lincoln's body. I would use this book in an English class before a History class. There are no facts in the book until the afterword. Here the author gives the reader a map and a description of the journey the train took from Washington D.C. to Lincoln's final resting place in Springfield, Illinois. ( )

Sweet story of a young boy who travels miles just to watch the train funeral procession of Abraham Lincoln. He pays his respect and then he and his father head home. For a young class, it wou;ld be great to pair with a lesson on Abe Lincoln's life. ( )
