This is a version of the Jewish story of how each of two brothers, unbeknownst to the other, decides to share his wheat with the other. The publisher, Waterford Institute, seems to be a completely secular organization concerned with quality education. I assume they picked the story because of the farce-like episodes in which the brothers pass each other unseen in the night and end up with exactly the same amount of wheat even though they keep trying to give away more. And there is a nice moral: the message about brotherly love which is heard both when they realize what has happened and then hundreds of years later when the Temple in Jerusalem is completed on the site of their fields "It is good when all people live together in peace" is a reasonable translation of the Hebrew song, "Hinei Mah Tov uManaim," which is from Psalm 133.

Although Joshua does not seem to consult his wife before he decides to share his wheat with his unmarried brother, she and their children later help carry the wheat to Samuel's field. ( )
