There is a baby duck who meets a new friend and they go a little "adventure". They baby duck and his new friend go through a water fall and then they make it through a dark forest. Then they make it to the sea. Baby duck is scared and then his friend gets picked up by a little boy leaving baby duck all alone. Baby duck finds his way home by flying back home. Books show you not to give up and to keep trying. When I read this in my classroom, I would read and ask my students what they think will happen next. By asking the students that, it is allowing them to think ahead and it gets them to have involved in the story. ( )

I really enjoyed reading the book, "Baby Duck's New Friend." I would read this book to kindergarten or first graders. The book is about a little duck who wants to go for an adventure. His mother tells him that he can not go past the bridge unless he is with a duck that can swim. Well the little duck is playing under a bridge when a little child drops a rubber ducky into the water. The little duck was so amazed at how fast this new duck could fly. So he told the rubber ducky to lets on go an adventure since you can fly. The ducks went down a water fall and the real duck was stuck underneath the water fall and could not get out the rubber ducky just floated out. So the little duck began to fly and flew back home. I think that this book would be a good book to read to children and discuss the difference between real animals and toy animals. I also think that this would be a good book to discuss following the rules and minding your parents or teacher. ( )

Baby Duck loved to go exporing; however, he could never go as far as he wanted because of his mother's rule, which was that ducklings cannot go beyond the old stone bridge unless they are with someone who can fly. One day, he decided to go paddling down the river and it was not long until he reached the old stone bridge. Then, a yellow duck landed in the river beside him and Baby Duck was happy because the yellow duck could fly; therefore, he could pass the old stone bridge. Together, Baby Duck and yellow duck paddled down the river, but Baby Duck did all the talking because yellow duck would not say anything at all (because he was really a rubber duck). On their journey, they went down a waterfall, out to sea, and onto a beach, which is where a little boy took yellow duck home. Baby Duck was then left to find his way home all by himself. Eventually, because he was so anxious to get home, Baby Duck began to fly and he found his way back home.
I would read this book to children in kindergarten and first grade. A good time to read this to children is when trying to get them to understand and respect the rules of their parents and the possibilities of what may happen if they are broken. Another good time to read this book is when trying to get children to realize that they have the ability to do something; just keep trying and stay motivated. I thought this was a cute story for children and thought it did a good job of showing that it is not always best to follow what others do. ( )

This book is about a little duck who wants to go exploring. He longs to go see new and exciting things. Mama duck has a rule though that he cannot go past the stone bridge without someone who can fly. So Baby Duck starts swimming and when he reaches the bridge he stops, a rubber ducky splashes into the water beside him from off the bridge. Baby Duck thought the rubber ducky knew how to fly so he asked him to go exploring with him. The rubebr duck floats downstream and Baby Duck follows. After a long and rough adventure Baby Duck realizes he must find his own way back home. While doing so, he discovers that he knows how to fly and flies all the way home. This is a good book and I am not too sure how you could tie this into a lesson but just for entertainment purposes, this book might be well suited for kindergarten maybe 1st graders. ( )
