I am sure it’s not to other’s tastes, but I LOVE Misunderstandings, and this book is chock full of them! The heroine is nice and insecure, but still has a fiery streak. I always want more groveling, and this has a fairly abrupt resolution, but given that the angst is based exclusively on miscommunications - no cruel hero here - it didn’t feel anticlimactic. I love the next book too, these will make nice paired rereads. ( )

A decent plot, fraught with misunderstandings and missteps on the part of all characters. It never quite makes it to the funny edge or to the farcial edge, but a pleasant read none the less. ( )

Charles Fawley planned on announcing his engagement to Felice Bergeron when he learnt she had eloped with her artist lover. Her older sister, Heloise, then suggested he marry her instead, so that Charles can save face while Heloise can escape the attentions of a repulsive suitor. Soon Heloise fell in love with Charles but thought he was still in love with her sister. Charles on the other hand, deeply cares for Heloise but thought she found him repulsive as well.

When I saw The Earl's Untouched Bride on sale at Amazon some months ago, I skipped on buying it because the reviews about the big misunderstanding plot scared me away. Since then I have read two of Burrows's more recent books and loved them. They also contain misunderstandings but they weren't that bad, so I thought I'd give this book a try.

Well, let me tell you the misunderstandings from all the romance novels I have read cannot compare to the ridiculousness of the misunderstandings in this book! The hero and heroine continuously jump to incorrect conclusions about each other's words and actions throughout the book. I mentally banged my head at walls and on desks every few pages because I was so frustrated with the characters. I thought to myself, will this torture ever end???

Still I have to give Burrows credit though. It takes a skilled writer to come up with so many convincing misunderstandings and keep it up to the end of the book. I admit it was amusing at first, but then it got tiring fast. The characters looked stupid for misinterpreting everything. The romance also wasn't that convincing considering how the heroine spent more time with her half-brother-in-law than her husband. ( )
