I can't believe I waited so long to read this! I've had the book for about a year, and honestly, the cover and description kinda kept me from reading it. I figured it was about some spiteful, evil girl who doesn't care if she steals her friend's boyfriend...but I was wrong, it's much deeper than that, thankfully. Emma's thoughts are laugh-out-loud funny. I'd say this book ties with "Nightlight" for funniest book I've read all year. To me, the plot was very original, and I wasn't quite sure how it was going to end. Emma's small town reminded me of my own hometown (that I still lived in up until about six months ago), so I might be a little bias, because I like stories about people trying to escape small towns to follow their dreams. However, I feel that “What Would Emma Do?” is a fresh take on the escape-small-town plot line. Fun read! ( )

Emma was raised by her single mom in a small town in the middle of Illinois. She goes to a private Christian high school which is socially ruled by the local minister's daughter, Darci. She has a damaged relationship with her best friend, Joann, and her boyfriend, Colin.

Everything was going fine until at Christmas Emma and Colin kissed. Even though the kiss was in a mall in a different town, it happened right in front of Joann's mother.

Now Emma runs track and wants to get a full ride scholarship to Northwestern University. She wants out. Then Darci and her BFF, Kimberly, do something outrageous and Emma is the witness.

Should she tell what she knows even if it means that she might lose her scholarship? She keeps trying to figure out what it means to do the right thing.

I enjoyed this book very much. It has a great lesson about what is important, that being a person with a lot of integrity is more important than many other things in life. Emma has to do what is right and it is a scary thought.

Read WHAT WOULD EMMA DO? It is one story that is going to stay with me for a long time. ( )

This novel was great, I really enjoyed reading it. I have to say my initial interest was started by the statement: “Thou shalt not kiss they best friend’s boyfriend....” I mean doesn’t that just intrigue you! I was surprised to find that the novel portrays a small Indiana town. Yay for Hoosiers! But I’ll admit it was strange having “Fort Wayne” pop up during the text..... what with it being so close and all. But besides the coincidence of my proximity with a fictional story, I would have to say that I would have enjoyed this novel had it not taken place in the Hoosier state. It’s refreshingly funny. I laughed out loud, Meg Cabot laughed out loud. I mean how can a book endorsed by Meg Cabot (also a fellow Hoosier) not be good!? I think it’s highly doubtful.Emma’s character was extraordinary! She’s funny, smart, sarcastic, insecure and genuine. I related to her questioning of her life and her faith. It was easy for me to imagine myself in Emma’s world because it is a realistic one. And the wide range of emotion that Emma displayed definitely struck a cord.I’m not sure if Cook is writing more about Emma, but I would love to read more about her! Great characters, great premise... add this one to your Christmas list. ( )
