Hennes memoarer (där "Ung i Paris" tydligen är del två) antyder att hon är en känd musiker/sångerska-skådespelare ursprungligen från Persien.
Men åååh vilken tråkig bok hon har skrivit. Hon beskriver sin tafatta första period i Paris under 1950-talet, hur hon sedan blev mer och mer bekväm med sitt nya liv som stog i så stor kontrast till Persien. Hone beskriver människor och miljöer, och det blir så trist, så ointressant att man bara vill försvinna.
Dessutom är upplägget obegripligt om man har ambitionen att producera en skönlitterär text. Varje kapitel beskriver ett förhållande; en händelse, en person eller ett hus etc. Och dessa kan sträcka sig över hela hennes tid i Paris - var för sig - men de beskrivs inte ihop. Som en dåligt skriven historiebok som inte sammanflätar de olika händelserna till en enhet.
Dessutom saknar Guppy förmågan att på ett naturligt sätt infoga kunskapsförmedling i sin text. Hon styltar upp det som en lärobok, och i det närmaste skriver läsaren på näsan. (
