Jackson Pollock once said, "I am nature." To that, Andy Warhol replied (well, not directly to Pollock...), "I am a machine." Somewhere in between these seemingly contradictory statements bloom the constructed flora installations of Gerda Steiner and Jorg Lenzlinger. The young Swiss couple variously use artificial plants, nectar lakes, and bears to create intimate, magical worlds where extraordinary things can happen. In Melbourne they built a place of pilgrimage underneath the stage of an electronics festival: glowing jelly that released a jus, produced eatable eggs and sprouted crystals. Visitors worshipped the holy jelly and asked for answers to difficult questions. In Basel they melded a glorious spread of rich, colorful desserts with equally bright paintings. In barren woods near Weil am Rhein they built a log cabin full of rich, colorful plant life. And for the 2003 Venice Biennale, they created that which the world could use much more of, good and silly miracles, which this volume documents. Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |
