Tang makes the introduction to multiplication to 10 entertaining with his use of rhyme in this informational text. Rather than just throwing facts at you he also gives you strategies to help you remember how to solve with larger numbers. For example, when multiplying eight you "simply double but once more". These strategies are helpful because if a child knows how to double they can use that knowledge to solve problems with larger numbers. ( ) The Best of Times by Greg Tang is a book on multiplying. It takes you all the way from 1 to 10. This book gives a rhyming sentence for each times table. This is a fun and easy way to get your kids engaged and to help teach their times tables. The book has pictures that go along with the text to help better understand how to multiply. The book was good. However, it doesn't really have much depth to it. The book does multiplication for numbers up to 10. I have good and bad things to say about the book. I don't feel like it hit many of the points that children's books are supposed to for math books. The book didn't include layers of meaning or connections to real life. The book doesn't grow naturally from the characters' actions, because the book doesn't include characters. It would make use of the reader's knowledge, because going through the multiplication they also show what addition facts go with it. The book could encourage the children's curiosity, because it's not just about memorizing the facts, but it discusses how and why the answer is that number. The book is also humorous, because each number has a fun name and has a rhyme that goes with how to do math facts for that number. Although the book tries to approach multiplication in a different way to make it interesting and not just memorization, some of the rhymes make it hard to understand and might confuse the students. Overall, I'm not sure this would be a good book to use in a classroom. This book is a very informative math book that teaches the concepts of multiplication. I really love the idea of teaching children the principal of multiplication and not just to memorize. Some of the rhyming made the concepts a little confusing to me so I had to read it over. Otherwise I really loved the book. To challenge students to a multiplication activity, this book will work. It puts a spunky fun riddle for each number then asks the reader questions that start of easy and get harder as the reader keeps reading. This book goes through all of the multiplication facts starting with 0 and ending with 10. There is a nice table in the back of the book for students to see the answers to the questions. This is a great book for students to take a break from the pen and paper timed multiplication quizzes. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
