Business. Psychology. Self-Improvement. Nonfiction. HTML:From the renowned psychologist who introduced the world to “growth mindset” comes this updated edition of the million-copy bestseller—featuring transformative insights into redefining success, building lifelong resilience, and supercharging self-improvement.
“Through clever research studies and engaging writing, Dweck illuminates how our beliefs about our capabilities exert tremendous influence on how we learn and which paths we take in life.”—Bill Gates, GatesNotes

“It’s not always the people who start out the smartest who end up the smartest.”
After decades of research, world-renowned Stanford University psychologist Carol S. Dweck, Ph.D., discovered a simple but groundbreaking idea: the power of mindset. In this brilliant book, she shows how success in school, work, sports, the arts, and almost every area of human endeavor can be dramatically influenced by how we think about our talents and abilities. People with a fixed mindset—those who believe that abilities are fixed—are less likely to flourish than those with a growth mindset—those who believe that abilities can be developed. Mindset reveals how great parents, teachers, managers, and athletes can put this idea to use to foster outstanding accomplishment.
In this edition, Dweck offers new insights into her now famous and broadly embraced concept. She introduces a phenomenon she calls false growth mindset and guides people toward adopting a deeper, truer growth mindset. She also expands the mindset concept beyond the individual, applying it to the cultures of groups and organizations. With the right mindset, you can motivate those you lead, teach, and love—to transform their lives and your own.

(altro)

Why Don't Students Like School?: A Cognitive Scientist Answers Questions About How the Mind Works and What It Means for the Classroom di Daniel T. Willingham (bluenotebookonline)
bluenotebookonline: Very readable book on cognitive science as it applies to teaching and learning. One chapter features the growth mindset, and the others are fabulous as well.

How Children Succeed: Grit, Curiosity, and the Hidden Power of Character di Paul Tough (bluenotebookonline)
bluenotebookonline: Tough goes broad on a range of non-cognitive factors that influence the likelihood that students will be successful (grit, perseverance, curiosity, etc.); Dweck goes deep on one factor (having a growth mindset rather than a fixed mindset). Both are highly readable (though FWIW, I found Dweck repetitive and preferred Tough's book).… (altro)

Thanks for the Feedback: The Science and Art of Receiving Feedback Well (Even When It Is Off Base, Unfair, Poorly Delivered, And, Frankly, You're Not in the Mood) di Douglas Stone (peter_vandenbrande)
(altro)

The book could be just as effective or more so if some of the chapters were cut, but I can imagine someone getting some benefit from the numerous anecdotes which probably help build intuition for identifying fixed vs. growth mindset. Given that I already knew the basic idea and just wanted to check out the book to see if there was anything more to it, I was a little disappointed not to learn anything new -- there was very little growth opportunity for me in reading the book :)

That said, I think that if someone has no familiarity with the research, this could be a very useful book. ( )

was handed out at the principal's meeting. It was very repetitive, but a good quick read. ( )

Most of the book was common sense, but the examples of famous people of a fixed mindset and ones of a growth mindset were interesting. ( )

Very important work. You may well recognize yourself and people you care about in this book, and find yourself seeing self and others from a new perspective.

I think this book is particularly important for anyone parenting or working with children, as this book provides practical advice on how to help children develop a "growth mindset", which equips children to become resilient and self-motivated.

I highly recommend.

Still relevant today as much as it was when it was first published in 2006. A must-read for teachers, parents, and any adult willing to try to reframe the way they have thought about the outcomes they can control. Our beliefs about our capacities are wired from our cultural and societal upbringings but may need a new pathway of thinking in order for us to fully realize the truth of Dr. Dweck's research. A game-changer in today's modern approach to teaching and parenting our children to approach failure with an opportunity for growth. ( )
