This was a re-read of an old favorite of mine. I'm not usually into romance stories, but the characters and setting of this book are so excellent I loooooove it. I read this years ago and didn't realize I never added it to my list here until a Goodreads friend recommended it. I loved it-sweet, romantic, and laugh-out-loud funny. Kudos, Dodie Smith! Haven't read this yet; but I really enjoyed Dodie Smith's original "101 Dalmatians," which I picked up at a thrift long, long ago because of the adorable dog illustrations. This non-Disney version of the story is delightfully loopy and quirky, so I'm quite sure I'll like this one too. this book is about students future.
This book was such a wonderful, enchanting and unpredictable read that by the end of it I felt like I almost was Cassandra, since her confessions, recordings and thoughts in her journals gave me a thorough insight into her. I also loved how the sections of the book were arranged in differently priced notebooks, which really demonstrated the progression of the story It feels, reading it now, as if this is the story that every romantic comedy Hollywood has ever made has been trying to tell. And when we come towards the end of the book and a marriage proposal and happily-ever-after storyline seems to be in the offing, I was worried we were going to stray into that territory. But Smith is too good a writer, Cassandra too interesting a person to settle for this. È contenuto inHa l'adattamento
I write this sitting at the kitchen sink' is the first line of a novel about love, sibling rivalry and a bohemian existence in a crumbling castle in the middle of nowhere. Cassandra Mortmin's journal records her fadingly glamorous stepmother, her beautiful, wistful older sister and the man to whom they owe both their isolation and poverty - Father. The author of one experimental novel, and a minor cause celebre, he has since suffered from writer's block and is determined to drag his family down with him. But if the iron has entered Father's soul it hasn't penetrated Cassandra's... Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |
