It was fine. This isn't really my kind of book, but at least this version was short and a quick read. ( )

Like other books in the "Great Illustrated Classics" series, this selection retells the story at a level suitable for early teens. Likewise, it is heavily illustrated with excellent drawings that correspond to the text on the facing page. In my view, this particular novel does not lend itself well to this series, given the large cast of characters, some of which have multiple (and foreign- sounding) names. However, if it attracts young readers to Dickens' classic historical novel, then it has served its purpose. ( )

In this retelling of the classic Charles Dickens tale, during the early days of the French Revolution, a young Englishman determines to do the utmost to save the husband of the woman he loves from the guillotine.

Summary: The mobs in the streets run wild and danger is everywhere. Lucy Manette feels safe, but the long, bloody hand of the mob reaches out for her and her family, thrusting them into ever-increasing danger.
