Book about growing up on the run during the Japanese invasion and the Communist takeover. Her father was part of the intellectual classes and taught at colleges. Her mother was completly taken with all things western and was a more modern woman. Their run to his family was very interesting reading as the father comes from a rich, traditional family and did not even recognize the marriage until they forced a traditional wedding. Lots of interesting information on how the "landlord" class lived in the 1930-1949 time frame. Worth the read. ( ) nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
Katherine Wei's memoir of growing up in China covers the years from her birth in 1930 to her departure for America in 1949. The story moves from the stately splendours of Peking to Shanghai in the frenzied days preceding the Communist takeover. Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |
