I have a deep nostalgic love of the cartoon series from which this is adapted, The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, but man that show has a ton of clunkers full of stupid physical comedy -- slapstick and pratfalls galore -- and unlikely plot developments far removed from A. A. Milne's source material. This bit of bluster was originally called "Gone with the Wind," and I do wish it had been blown away from memory rather than deemed worthy of not one but two book treatments. The other one is called Windswept Away.
Both adaptations use the exact same illustrations but have completely different scripts. This is the shorter adaptation, dumping a bunch of the art used in the other adaptation and cutting many of the scenes from the original cartoon. Poor Gopher doesn't get to show up at all in this version.
FOR REFERENCE:
Picture book adaptation of The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh animated segment "Gone with the Wind," from Season 1, Episode 11; first aired March 27, 1988; directed by Karl Geurs; story by Terrie Collins and Mark Zaslove; teleplay by Terrie Collins and Bruce Talkington.
(Pooh Project: Phase 2! I've managed to catalog all the shorter Pooh books my family owns (see the list here). While I work through few remaining longer Pooh books we own, I'm missing my daily dose of Pooh, so I'm going to start seeking out some of the Pooh books I don't own – yet – from libraries IRL and online. See the reviews here.) ( )
