(And such a title! But it's a reference to a series of periodical essays by Matthew Arnold.) It is a book that sets you on a quest for knowledge, and it has done that for me since I read it about 20 years ago. ( ) nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

In this book Lyons traces the outlines of four conflicting cultures which coexist in Ireland: Gaelic, English, Anglo-Irish and Ulster Protestant. He contends that their interlocking patterns form the basis of Ireland's continuing conflicts. The historical framework of the book is defined by two symbolic dates: the fall of Parnell and the death of Yeats. Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |
