Summary: Two different babies were abandoned and were left to be raised by others. One was a beautiful girl by the name of Esmeralda, and the other was a boy by the name of Quasimodo. Quasimodo loved the Cathedral bells and respected his Archdeacon, Don Claude. Don Claude saw Esmeralda dancing and soon could think of nothing else but her. Djali was Esmeralda's white goat. Claude ordered Quasimodo to kidnap Esmeralda. While Quasimodo was trying to kidnap Esmeralda, he was soon halted by Captain Phoebus. Esmeralda thanked the captain and soon disappeared. Esmeralda could only think of the captain that saved her, Claude skipped town and let Quasimodo take the charges of kidnapping. Quasimodo only hoped that he did not scare the girl. When he began to get thirsty and no one would give him any water, there was one person in the crowd that brought him water, Esmeralda. The crowd was so moved that they released Quasimodo. Later the captain called on Esmeralda to meet him and Claude smashed Phoebus on the head and accused Esmeralda of killing him. Esmeralda and Djali were both found guilty and put them both in jail. Claude told Esmeralda that if she told him that she loved him they would be free, but Esmeralda still shocked over Phoebus's death still denied his claim. Soon Esmeralda became weak and collapsed, but when she awoke she was in someone's arms. Esmeralda soon began to see Quasimodo heart rather than his appearance. Later Claude's evil workings were overthrown and many people demanded Esmeralda's freedom. Quasimodo and Esmeralda felt for each other and lived on and on.

Personal Belief: This is a simple book that has an outstanding impact on students. This book has been referenced by me to student who were having trouble at school with others and those who are judgmental.

Extension: Student should not look at a persons' appearance before they judge them. People who show compassion will always receive compassion in their life. Student who are quick to judge and slow to know others will have a judged lifestyle. A good example could be used to teach students that it is what is in the inside of a person that counts not the outside. This extension plan can be used to help student understand their friendships and their relationships with others. ( )
