Bumping down the rating on this first book in the series because it has some problematic plot points. The relationship between the two main characters is one. The actions of a villain is another. I did enjoy reading this book enough to continue the series, though, and I enjoyed the series more with following books, so I'm still giving this first book 2 stars. I don't think I'll ever re-read it, though. (In contrast, some of the later books in the series are keeper-shelf books.) ( )

It was ok. I liked the idea of Alexandra being a plastic surgeon and healing vampires. However, I have mixed feeling about the tribute to Anne Rice and the religious part of the story. Sometimes it felt like reading Anne Rice fanfic. ( )

This book really didn't impress me. I read it for the 2nd time recently. The series over all is awesome. This first book didn't really have the romance that the other books have. Maybe because the author had to give so much back story. It really is a great series. Gabriel's book (book 4) is my fave. ( )

Viehl's take on vampires. Interesting but not compelling. ( )

Normalerweise richte ich mich schon nach den Amazon-Bewertungen und hätte den Band aufgrund des schlechten Schnitts nicht gekauft, allein der Mangel damals an neuem Lesestoff hat mich gezwungen.
Aber vielleicht weil meine Erwartungen nicht so groß waren, hat mich die Story von Anfang an gepackt und ich konnte das Buch bis zum Schluss nicht mehr aus der Hand legen. Die Protagonisten werden nicht direkt vom Liebestaumel gepackt, das liegt wohl einfach daran, dass die Autorin viel Wert auf viel Handlung mit verschiedenen Charakteren gelegt hat, die nicht ausschließlich mit Erotik zu tun hat. Ich empfinde die Entwicklung als glaubwürdig, Alexandra ist ganz nach meinem Geschmack und ihr respektloser selbstbewusster Umgangston mit Unsterblichen gefällt mir ausgesprochen gut, vor allem gegenüber der "Tresora", die irgendwann zu ihrem Laufburschen degradiert wird. Ich fand's richtig gut.
Über teilweise grausame Folter durch fanatische Feinde lese ich etwas schneller drüber. Es trägt aber auch zur Spannung bei. Auf jeden Fall bin ich auf den 2. Band gespannt. Lt. Beschreibung wird es um einen der anderen Darkyn gehen, aber ich hoffe zu erfahren, wie sich Alexandras erworbene Gabe entwickelt. ( )
