A collection of silly tall tales in which a handful of children stretch yarns of historic and biblical events throughout history with a fair amount of embellishment and a lot of rhyming. I felt the book could have dug a little deeper into some of the historic inspirations, or omitted some of the celebrated tales altogether. I felt like this book might inspire some interesting conversations among small children and could also be a useful tool to introduce rhyming poetry to young children because they are short and easily mimicked. ( )

While not my favorite Kellogg tale, it's still enjoyable. The illustrations are colorful and detailed, and I liked the cameos by other Kellogg tall tale characters, including Johnny Appleseed, Pecos Bill, and Mike Fink. ( )

I Was Born about 10,000 Years Ago is a story about a boy who claims that he was there for several certain events throughout history, such as Cleopatra, Pharaoh, Adam and Eve, the dinosaurs, Columbus, Samson, and Paul Bunyan, etc. At the end of the story, he admits that he stretched the truth but tells that this is how good stories were told long ago for the last 10,000 years.
