Re-read, actually. Alan Moore disguises a modern history of magic and mystical thought in the garb of an action-adventure comic, a la Wonder Woman. The story is perfectly in sync with the art by JH Williams and the whole can feel a bit overpowering at times. I'm currently re-reading this series on my way to the fifth volume which I somehow managed to miss. I am looking forward to the experience. ( )
This is definitely one of the more interesting and entertaining reads I have done this year. The tale of Promethea is just starting in this volume, and I can't wait to find the second one. College student Sophia, in an alternate New York discovers she is to be the new Promethea. Moore's storytelling is very good, and the sense of humor he is known for is present as well. The art on this volume is very good as well, bringing alive the worlds of imagination and drawing the reader in. I am glad I discovered this, and I am looking forward to the next one. In fact, I may have to reread it to see what I may have missed the first time around. ( )
Borrowed from the library, although they seem to have all other volumes except #2. I'd go for 3.5 stars if I could - a packed start to an intriguing series. Reminds me of Mazeworld and the Unwritten, with strong characters and lots of reality-weaving. For some reason not as entertaining as The Invisibles, say, but keen to pick volume 2 up. ( )
