Picture book, beautiful artistry, imagination, innovation, challenge to overcome, protagonist must face change or change himself Ways to use this book: *Compare the Constantine Shimmers into the end of the world with the invasion of explorers into Native American land. What is the same? What is different? *Writing prompt: imagine other places like the ones in the book, what if Mr. Shimmers finds new location, where are boy's parents, etc. This beautifully illustrated story is about a young boy who lives at the end of the world--a place of solitude and adventure. When he comes across a businessman named Shimmer, he is excited to have a friend until Shimmer develops the land into a busy, noisy resort. The boy soon learns that he misses the harmony of this place and at the end moves to the "top of the world." The writing is simple yet purposeful, and this book is perfect for a child (or an adult) who wants to appreciate the importance of solitude in such a noisy world. A boy lives all alone searching for treasure, fossils, and enjoying nature until a professional visonatry comes along and changes life as he knows it. Constantine Shimmer builds an inn that is busy all year long. The boy meets freinds and they play, but he begins to miss how things were. Grades 1-3. A young boy enjoys the quiet life he leads at the end of the world until an old man with a vision comes and changes it all. This book shows how the area evolves as it becomes more like a city than a lonely place at the end of the world and how the boy handles it. This is a great story to talk about frienship and solitude and harmony and happiness with the simple life. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

This book is a good example of fantasy because the location is in an imaginary world. This imaginary place is the end of the world- which does not exist because the earth is round. However, the characters are realistic and the events of turning a nature-area into a tourist location are realistic aspects.
