The educational needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students have been neglected by schools in Australia. Low rates of success and high dropout rates have contributed to the continuing exclusion of Indigenous students from higher education and from better opportunities in life. There is no doubt that massive change is needed in the education of Indigenous students if they are going to succeed in school at the same rates as other students in Australia.
