This book is very informational and tells kids a simplified version of how tornadoes work. The book also includes diagrams of winds and explains what conditions are needed in order to create tornadoes. Diagrams of how a funnel cloud work are also included. In addition to this, the author included pictures about the potential destruction created by tornadoes. I think kids will gain a better understanding of how a tornado functions and become more aware about how to spot potential tornado conditions. I would give this book to older children between 3rd to 5th grades. Although there are photographic elements included in the book there is a lot of text which could be harder for younger kids to comprehend. Seymour Simon teaches us about tornados in this version of his non-fiction book. There are dynamic photos, maps, and graphics that would be ideal for a student doing research. The font is large and fills pages giving the perfect balance of text for this non fiction book. Again, I pulled a Seymour Simon book. Now, I just love they way he writes. Deliberately and with enough words for older students/ readers, yet simple enough for younger readers to come in for a challenge. If you have never read or should I say, seen a book by Seymour Simon, than you are missing out. His photographs are just amazing and you could stare at them for hours. I have yet to come across a class that doesn’t have at least half of the students fascinated by weather. This book, and any book by Seymour Simon, is great to help introduce a reading unit on Nonfiction and Informational books. Students feel transported to the time and place in the picture and will instantly have students wanting to learn more. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
