What begins as an ordinary day for Rose Martin ends in murder as one of her patients dies in a car bomb explosion. Rose is present at the crime and sees something she should not. She hides from danger at the Zook's farm in Bird-in-Hand, Pennsylvania. Jake Zook has come a long way from the embittered man he was right after the accident that made him a paraplegic. Having the nurse who saved his life that night living in the apartment above his brings back a lot of the emotion he thought he'd dealt with. And knowing her life is in danger makes his heart hurt. As Rose and Jake puzzle through the mystery, they are forced to examine their feelings for each other.
