A grandfather then got a mare from an abusive home for his two grandsons. The mare won't come near anyone, and is afraid of people . The boys want nothing more than to see her be able to run freely as she likes, and although the grandfather knows they would probably never be able to catch the mare again, he sets aside his knowledge and his kind heart sets the mare out to pasture with the stallion. In the fall, she becomes pregnant, and the boys are still trying to get the mare to trust them. After a harsh winter, she eventually trusts them enough to come in right before having her foal. ( )
