Neels is an author to count on for a calm and relaxing, if a bit predictable read. Her stories are full of interesting details about Dutch and British culture and the life style of the mid 20th century. Never disturbing, always interesting, a book to put down and come back to. She never fails to entertain the old fashioned romantic in me.
The digital format is great and a good way to save Neels books to return to when you just need a nice, peaceful read.
In this one the doctor is 'sort of' engaged to an egomaniacal woman who really has no interest in her fiance's friends, work, life....they are so mismatched. He is a man of many interests, one of which is the nurse who has relocated temporarily to fill in at his hospital to relieve the shortage of staff nurses. This story, while not original, was very enjoyable to me. I find that the more I read of Betty Neels books, the more I like them. ( )
