Reading Chesterton's Father Brown series provides a wonderful way to transition from an overdose of media or entertainment to serious reading. It's also helpful when wanting a break from serious reading, but not one that slips so far as to be ensnared by mindless drivel. Entertaining, enlightening, enlivening. In his fiction, Chesterton is masterful in telling an interesting story while expounding eternal truth. (

Written in an arrogant, assuming & dilettantish manner....with the protagonist quoting himself from other works which he appeared in. Footnotes on almost every page...just bloody boring.

I'd have liked less description & more story..... (
