The illustrations alone make this worth the purchase price—numerous, high quality and glossy. It'd be good as a coffee table book, but the individual essays are also well worth the read. Each is written by a different expert in that particular field, and although the style of the chapters therefore varies quite a bit, all are scholarly and readable. A good introduction to the subject which still offers something to the more knowledgeable reader. ( )
