Life is always hard for the poor, in any place and at any time. Ethan Frome is a farmer in Massachusetts. He works long hours every day, but his farm makes very little money. His wife, Zeena, is a thin, grey woman, always complaining, and only interested in her own ill health. Then Mattie Silver, a young cousin, comes to live with the Fromes, to help Zeena and do the housework. Her bright smile and laughing voice bring light and hope into the Fromes´ house - and into Ethan´s lonely life. But poverty is a prison from which few people escape . . .

Ethan is the main character of this story.
He is poor,but he married.
And his wife's cousin lived with them.

I felt sad when I finish reading this story.
And I can understand Ethan's thought.
Because his wife is too terible. ( )

Ethan Frome is a farmer who has little money to live. He lives in Massachusetts with his wife Zeena and Zeena's cousin Mattie. Mattie is younger than Zeena, so Ethan is fascinated and love her. But he has the wife, so he faces many difficulties.
I was interested in this story which is different from other books in point of the construction. I think love is so difficult and scare because Ethan fell in love with Mattie even though he had the wife, Zeena. So Ethan was stupid, but little poor man. ( )

Ethan Frome is a poor farmer in Starkfield. He lives with his wife, Zeena and her cousin's daughter,Mattie.Zeena doesn't have the love for him and always has interest in her own illness,so his only hope is Mattie. But thire relation is unpleasant for his wife and she tries to drive Mattie from their house.
I thought Ethan was very pitiful person.Of course, his love for Mattie is not good. But he had been hard to try for his wife and she is too selfish,so she made a cause. Its end is the bitterest for him. ( )

This is classics book and I think this is love story. Ethan married Zeena and live with his wife's cousin Mattie. Because she has little money and no job. One day, one trouble occurred and...
To tell the truth, I couldn't understand this story well. I only understood some parts of the story. I'm sorry for Mattie because she is alone. I can't understand why people behave coldly to Mattie. ( )
