This unusual book is a serious, in-depth enquiry into Schr dinger's question, "What is Life?" and at the same time, a celebration of life itself. It takes the reader on a voyage of discovery through many areas of contemporary physics from non-equilibrium thermodynamics to quantum optics, all necessary to illuminate the problem of life. In the process, the reader is treated to a rare and exquisite view of the organism, gaining novel insights, not only into the physics, but also "the poetry and meaning of being alive". It is intended for all who love the subject. Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |

There are numerous claims of which I am highly skeptical - among other things, Ho claims that cell phones do cause brain damage - but I found the underlying mindset of viewing organisms, humans included, as a contained energy system to be quite interesting. I think it would be a great book for a science fiction author wanting new ideas. ( )
