The first of Kirsten Beyer's books in the Voyager Relaunch series is a good, but is a bit difficult to get thorough. It's really two books that were combined into one with almost two completely different plot lines. It is still worth reading. It is a great series. You do not need to have read the previous books in the series, but it'll help. ( ) If you are looking for an action-packed Voyager book, this is not the book for you. I gave it 5 stars for the author's grasp of the Voyager characters and their universe, and for the wonderful JetC and P/T scenes. The book seems like two stories published together with a thin thread uniting them, mostly like it was a set-up for everything else. The author assumes the reader is familiar with the events in 'Before Dishonor' and the 'Destiny' series, so it's best to brush up on (not necessarily reread) those first. The first part of the book is an action-packed hunt for B'Elanna and Miral who have been kidnapped. Everyone but Tuvok is present. The rest of the book consists of our heros' reactions to Janeway's death, particularly that of Chakotay. JetC fans will thoroughly enjoy scenes and comments that confirm what they've always believed, and will ache with Chakotay during his struggle. While I wish there was a more cohesive plot to the book, the minute details, brief glimpse of home, and JetC more than make up for it. Usually I don't see out reviews before I read a book or watch a movie, but I happened to read a few reviews of this, post-Destiny trilogy, re-re-start of the Voyager novel series. To a T, the reviews I read before I read the book seemed to imply that the reviewers were underwhelmed by the novel. And while a lot of their reviews were harsher than I judged the novel, it wasn't the best example of a Star Trek plot that I've read. And I say that on purpose, because the writing was good, it was just the plot that seemed forced. It also didn't help that it really should have been two books as they've done in the past instead of one gigantic tome. The stories flowed into one another, but the fact that it was so long made some of the jumping between past events and present ones a bit confusing. They tried to make it clearer by using dates, but in some cases because there were so many dates it made the story even more confusing. I was always taught that when it came to time changes while the use of italics or dates or whatever is fine, the reader should also be able to tell in what time period or where in the story the scene takes place without any extra help. And, that didn't always happen in Full Circle. Still, it was a good novel, even if it wasn't great. And I'll mostly likely even continue reading the new Voyager series since these days all the Star Trek novels' story lines seem to overlap heavily. Excellent. The author captures the essential nuance of each character's personality. There's a lot of ground covered and yes the timeline does tend to switch back and forth but that's simply in keeping with the plot. I liked it and plan to read the sequel as soon as possible. I highly recommend it to ST Voyager fans. Newbies might have a more difficult time following along simply because the book's author naturally assumes the reader is familiar with the tenets of the show and the history of the published novels to date.
