This was a strange book. While easy to read and written well, the view point of a strange little girl and her life with shrimpers and holy rollers never quite jelled for me, plus there's a murder mystery in there somewhere. However, saying that I would read another book written by Diane Wilson. ( )

This book reads like a cross between a Mark Childress and a James Lee Burke novels. Which I thought was made all the more interesting by the fact that it is a memoir and not a fictional story.
Religious fervor, hard scrabble living and a touch of murder tossed in for good measure make this book a fascinating read but what I most took away after finishing it was that perhaps it is the imperfections in life, and how we choose to deal with those unfair imablances we encounter while living it, that make us more well rounded people in the end. A great book, sticks to your bones like a country church supper, highly recomended. ( )
