A young African American girl hopes to win a prize at a cake walk. This was not one of my more favorite children's books that I have read. I enjoyed it because the language/writing style was authentic and would be great to do a fun southern accent with when reading aloud. I also really enjoyed the illustrations that went along with the words. Conversely, in my own opinion I think that the overall message of the book was a little hard to follow for young students. I had trouble my first time reading it understanding what the "Brother Wind" was and why Mirandy was chasing it. Although I had some trouble understanding it at first, this also could be a good thing because then it could be used in a class discussion to unpack the meaning and to stimulate students minds. I absolutely loved this book from the illustration to the words spoken to tell the story. I felt brother wind is an excellent character who symbolizes being free and dancing with no care not letting negative people get to you. Dancing with the wind is a great message for young kids. This story is more for k-5 but also for any other age. This story is about a young girl named Mirandy. Mirandy is in search for a partner to dance with for the cakewalk. Mirandy believes if she catches brother wind she would have someone to accompany her at the cakewalk and they will win the contest. However, Mirandy did not catch brother wind. The day of the cakewalk she had no partner. Ezel also did not have a partner and Mirandy soon realized she had feelings for Ezel. I like this book a lot because it encouraged me to keep reading to see what Mirandy would do next. I also like how the story lead to Mirandy realizing her feelings for Ezel. It is a good read. The medium of the illustrations looks like tempera paint. The illustrations are beautiful and eye catching. The illustrations go well with enhancing the text. The illustrations in my opinion also encouraged me to continue reading. in the Coretta Scott King award winning book Mirandy and brother wind Patricia C.McKissack tells a story about a girl who had a wish to be accompanied by a special person to to the the cakewalk with her. Mirandy chasing the wind is the same as someone who just want to be with another person for the fame or just they may be more liked in the society.later on in the story she figures out that she can not have all what she wanted ,when she is at the dance without a partner. the real partner was in front of her the whole time but she got blinded by the society norms.this is a good book to read during a lesson plan about acceptance of others and treating others without and prejudice. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
