There was a fabulous diamond that is known throughout India as the moon stone. It was part of a statue of Hindu moon god and it was guarded by 3 Brahmins. When the Mogul Army attacked the Hindu temple, the mogul general stole the diamond. But the diamond was a curse so the general died a terrible death and his son and his grandson. A few years later the diamond was stolen from mogul by John Herncastle.
On 24 May 1848, 4 entertainers came to entertain Lady Julia and her daughter, Miss Rachel. They were 3 Indians and English boy .Penelope who was Miss Rachel's maid was anxious about them so she told her father who was the butler to tell Mr. Blake to be careful. When Mr. Blake arrived, Betteredge told him about the Indians and he brought the diamond with him to give it for Miss Rachel because her uncle John Herncastle left it to her in his will. Mr. Betteredge didn't believe him and he thought he left the curse a diamond to take revenge on Lady Julia who refused to see him on Miss Rachel's birthday.
A year ago Miss Rachel's birthday arrived she invited family friends to celebrate. Later when all the guests had arrived, Miss Rachel received her presents. Mr. Blake gave her the Moonstone and everyone was amazed by its size and beauty. After dinner, the Indian entertainers came back with their drums. Mr. Betteredge couldn't send them away because the guests wanted to see the entertainment. Mr. Murthwaite went up to the Indians and said something to them so their leader stopped the entertainment. The next morning, the Moonstone was stolen and everyone was sad. The police came and searched but the detective said no one has broken into the house so the thief must be someone in the house. After that Mr. Blake sent a telegram to the London police, asking them to send Sergeant Cuff. The next day he arrived from London and they gave him a full report of the investigation so far, he asked all servants and checked their things except Miss Rachel who refused to let him check her things. After that the sergeant was suspicious about Rosanna’s reputation because she was in prison in London for theft. Mr. Betteredge and the sergeant went to Yolland family Rosanna's only friends there to ask them some questions about her. Then Miss Rachel wanted to move to live with her aunt in Frizinghall , the sergeant told her it would be more difficult for him to find her diamond if she went but she ignored him. However, Mr. Betteredge and sergeant went to the shivering sand and they pointed to a woman's footprints in the sand. They thought only Rosanna who wanted to die here before so they were trembling. when they returned Lady Julia was in an agitated state and said for the sergeant " That poor girl's death is your fault take your money and please leave the house " but he insisted to tell her the results of his investigation. Lady ordered from the sergeant to tell her daughter herself. Then the lady went to Frizinghall and sent to the sergeant a letter to tell him he was wrong and her daughter was innocent. Then the sergeant left the house.

Mr. Blake came back after leaving London, to continue the investigation. He arrived at Rachel's house and met Mr.Betteredge and he told him Rosanna left letter for him, so they went to Yolland family to take it from Rosanna's friend. He opened the letter and understood why was hidden a box in shivering sand. They went there and saw Mr. Blake’s nightshirt and letter under it told him how she love him.
In, London Mr. Blake met Miss Rachel and she told him how he stole that diamond in her birthday's night and why she hid this matter. Then he went to see Mr. Jennings and he told him what Dr Candy said when he was fever. Mr. Blake understood the mystery because Dr Candy gave him opium to sleep well but he took the diamond while he was under the influence of opium so Mr. Jennings suggest to repeat what happened for Mr. Blake in that birthday to see where Mr. Blake put the diamond. On 24 June they did the experiment but they failed although they knew Mr. Blake was innocent.
After a few days Mr. Blake received a letter from Mr. Muthwaite the famous traveler .He told him probably the diamond stole by the three Brahmins because he saw the diamond on the statue of the god of the moon. That means the diamond came back to his owners.
