In this book, Amelia Earhardt is immortalized for children as the first female to fly solo across the Atlantic. At a young age Amelia loved to create, and built a roller coaster which extending from her roof to the ground. Her first plane, the Canary flew 14,000 feet. In 1929 the first women's air Derby from Santa Monica, Ca to Cleveland, OH took place, in which she crash landed in Arizona. On May 20 1932 she flew across the Atlantic, her engine on fire landing safely in a farmer's field in Northern Ireland. I enjoyed this book. It depicts Amelia as the strong woman that she is. People would laugh and tell her she couldn't accomplish what she set out to do, and she displaced their belief. A good book with a good meaning, lets the little girl know that just because she bears the XY chromosome, she is still as capable as any brute of a man, and even better. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

Despite the naysayers, Amelia Earhart was able to soar through the skies and accomplish many of her dreams. Young Amelia dreams of building her own roller coaster, learning to fly her own airplane, and even exploring the skies as one of the world's first female pilots. But girls in the early twentieth century don't do such things. When Amelia tells her family and friends of her plans, they only shake their heads and say, "You can't do that, Amelia!" But Amelia is not easily discouraged andeventually earns a place in American history as one of the world's first female pilots and one of the century's most acclaimed adventurers. Well researched and supplemented with biographical information, research notes, and additional sources, You Can't Do That, Amelia! will leave young readers inspired to follow their dreams. Review: This is a great book to use in a classroom for a history lesson. It is set up in a way that children can identify with her as a child. It also is a great encourager for students to pursue their dreams and to never give up just because people don't believe in you.
