The final volume in the Angel's Luck trilogy is a step down from the second book but not as bad as the first one. There are several annoying points. First, like the first book, the action is dominated by a bullets-blazing raid. Yawn. Like the second book, much of the character arc is dominated by one character's internal battles with a xenophobic pilot personality. Unconvincing and repetitious. Finally, the third book adds a critical early plot point that depends on the characters as a group being idiots. Despite all that, there are enough smaller plot arcs to make this an acceptable though non-essential read.

Limited recommendation, for those who want to know how the second book plotlines wrap up. ( )

In the conclusion of the Angel's Luck series the gormless Captain James May tries to return the Essence Phials to the Essence Company for a legendary reward which he plans to use to rebuild his ruined ship and pay off his crew, and generally return to a quiet life. All while escorting an alien ambassador who wants to learn about humans first-hand.

Of course, the reward really is a legend, the local company branch is headed by an evil-doer who had the phials stolen in the first place as a marketing scam and nothing ever goes right. First the phials are taken, then one of May's crew is taken and another injured, then the company man decides the alien would be more valuable, and a few more of May's plans fail spectacularly. He picks up a couple more helpful side kicks and in the eventual final confrontation good wins, evil is punished, and nearly everyone lives happily ever after.

Oh and there is a little shadow play about xenophobia and the place of the consummate warrior after the war is over.

If you started the series and liked it, there is no reason not to finish it, provided you can find a copy somewhere. ( )
